GVSU - Lakers Compete at Last Chance Meet

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Grand Valley State men's track and field team concluded the regular season competing at the Last Chance Meet at the Laker Track & Field Stadium on Saturday.
Junior Xavier Parnell ran the 100-meter dash for the Lakers, placing second and coming in with a time of 10.81. Parnell scratched from the event yesterday, but his time missed the provisional mark for NCAA qualifying.
Sophomore Nathaniel Hammersmith placed first in the 400 just a step in front of Indianapolis' Robert Gardner with a time of 47.43. Hammersmith improved on his time from the Second to Last Chance Meet and hit the provisional mark in the event.
In the 1500-meter run, junior Larry Julson finished third with a time of 3:57.52.
Improving on his time from yesterday's meet, sophomore Deonte Hurst finished second in the 110m hurdles with an NCAA provisional time of 53.39.
After hitting a provisional mark in the discus yesterday, sophomore Donny Stiffler hit an automatic qualifying mark in the shot put with a toss of 17.15m.
Selected athletes will compete in the NCAA Division II National Championship beginning on May 24 at the Neta and Eddie DeRose Thunderbowl in Pueblo, Colo.
