EMU - Eagles Finish Competition at Penn and Hillsdale

PHILADELPHIA, Pa./HILLSDALE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team competed in both the Penn Relays and the Hillsdale Gina Relays over the weekend with successful results at both competitions.
After a good start Thursday, April 26, the Eagles built on their momentum at the Penn Relays with good results on Friday, April 27. The sprint medley relay team of Rosie White, ReJeana Marigna, Shantavia Williams and Beverly Elcock ran 3:58.66 to win their heat. This finish is the sixth fastest in EMU's history. The team defeated Texas A&M and Indiana for the win, while the 4x100-meter relay team ran in the college final and finished sixth with a time of 46.49 seconds.
Saturday, the Eagles' 4x400 Relay ran exceptionally well with a late charge from Williams, running a 52.8 second anchor split. The team's final time of 3:39.59 is the best to this season by three seconds and ranks second in the Mid-American Conference and ninth best in EMU women's track and field history.
At the Hillsdale Gina Relays the Eagles showed off with successful finishes as well. Morgan Churchwell completed the 800-meter run in 2:18.78 for a sixth place finish and Ashley Wartley placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles after crossing the finish line in 15.08. Victoria Voronko took second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase after finishing the race in 10:33.50, while Wartley placed sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.37.
Eastern is in action for one more meet prior to the 2012 Outdoor MAC Championships. The Eagles will head to Ann Arbor, Mich. to take part in the Len Paddock Invitational Friday and Saturday, May 4-5.
