EMU Eagles Track Heads to Columbus for Jesse Owens Classic

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's and women's track and field teams travel to Columbus, Ohio Friday and Saturday, April 13-14, for the 2012 Jesse Owens Classic. The annual meet is held at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of the Ohio State University.

Athletes from all levels, including individuals from more than 35 colleges are scheduled to compete in the two-day event. Colleges will get the action underway Friday, April 13, at 4 p.m., with women's javelin and men's discus.

"We are looking forward to a weekend of high-level competition at Ohio State. It will be the strongest we have faced so far this season," remarked men's head coach John Goodridge.

The running events will open Friday also with the women's 5,000-meter at 8 p.m. under the lights. Saturday's events will start at 10:30 a.m. with the pole vault, men's hammer throw and women's shot put.

"The Spartan Invitational last weekend was a good meet for us and we hope to build on what we did there this coming weekend," said women's head coach Sue Parks. "Jesse Owens is a usually a great meet with great competition and we look forward to the challenge of improving our marks in all event areas."
