Calvin - Track and Field Teams Compete at Adrian College All-American Invitational

ADRIAN - The Calvin men’s and women’s track and field team competed at the Adrian All-American Invitational on Saturday.
Highlights for the Calvin women included:
*Freshman Kate Ardinger winning the 1,500 meters (4:49.37)
*Sophomore Julie Busscher taking second in the 100 meters (13.04) and third in the 200 meters (26.55).
*Freshman Breanna Verkaik placing second in 800 meters (2:19.49) with sophomore Olivia Butler placing third (2:20.88), freshman Grace Stoffer placing fourth (2:21.15) and freshman Jordyn Platt placing fifth (2:23.44).
*Sophomore Hillary Banning placing second in the 400 meter hurdles (1:08.72), second in the triple jump (34-8) and third in the long jump (16-8).
*Junior Alyssa Penning winning the 5,000 meters (18:09.51)
*Junior Carissa Verkaik winning the high jump (5-5)
*Freshman Christina Geating winning the pole vault (10-0) with freshman Carmen Bilbao placing second (10-0).
Highlights for the Calvin men included:
*Senior Justin Kremers winning the javelin throw (172-7)
*Freshman Josh Ferguson placing second in the 1,500 meters (4:04.57) with junior Kevin Peterson third (4:06.07)
*Freshman Erik Holstege placing third in the 100 high hurdles (16.40) and second in the long jump (20-9)
*Junior Job Christiansen winning the 5,000 meters (15:12.55) while junior David VandeBunten was third (15:46.57) and sophomore Alex VanHaitsma fourth (15:55.92)
*Sophomore Matt Christians placing second in the high jump (6-5)
*Sophomore Evert Geerlings placing second in the pole vault (13-10)
*Junior Aaron Meckes placing second in the shot put (48-9) and third in the discus (142-9)
In addition, a small group of Calvin runners competed on Saturday at the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio, on Saturday. In the women’s 1,500 meters, senior Kaitlin Diemer took 15th (4:44.74) and junior Kayea Brase 19th (4:49.42). In the men’s 1,500 meters, sophomore Sam Kerk was 18th (4:00.37).
Both Calvin teams will now prepare to compete at the MIAA Jamboree next Saturday at Albion College. The MIAA Jamboree will be worth one-half of the final MIAA standings.
