YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's and women's track and field teams travel to East Lansing, Mich. Friday-Saturday, Apr. 6-7, for the Spartan Invitational. The men will also send a group of athletes to the 68th annual Pepsi Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla.
The Spartan Invitational will be held at the Ralph Young Track and Field Facility on the campus of Michigan State University, Apr. 6-7. The hammer throw, discus and javelin will be contested at Munn Field directly across Chestnut Road from the track. High Jump and Pole Vault and possibly Long and Triple Jump will be contested in the indoor facility, Jenison Field House. The competition will start Friday with just the hammer throw at 2 p.m. and will continue Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. with the 5,000-meter run and last until 5 p.m. with the 4x400-meter relay.
"We had some solid performances in both meets last weekend but we were disappointed that the weather prevented us from completing all of our events at North Florida," said women's head coach Sue Parks. "We are excited to get back out there and compete this weekend."
In Gainesville the collegiate portion of the Florida Relays will start at noon, Friday afternoon, with the men's hammer throw. The events will continue until 9:30 p.m. Friday evening and continue Saturday morning at 11 a.m. Saturday's opening event will be the men's discus and the events will continue until 7:05 p.m. when the 4x400-meter relay is scheduled to commence.
"We hope to benefit from last weekend's outdoor season debut with improved performances as we continue the transition from indoors to outdoors," remarked men's head coach John Goodridge.
