LSSU - Lakers smash six school records at Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. - Leslie Mitchell and Katie Winiarski both posted fourth-place finishes at this weekend's Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State University and headlined six new outdoor records for the Lake Superior State track and field team.
Winiarski cleared 1.65 meters to place fourth in the high jump and beat a long-standing LSSU record of 1.63 meters set by Dianna Kintz in 2004. Winiarski also finished eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 10.51 meters.
Mitchell set an outdoor mark of :11.87 while qualifying eighth in the 100-meter dash preliminaries, then later scratched from the 100 finals. She ran a school record :24.42 to place fourth in the 200-meter dash timed finals. Mitchell also clocked a record time of :13.76 in the 100-meter hurdles preliminaries, where she was seeded second. During the finals, she placed eighth in :14.08, while teammate Sashawna Bennett was ninth in :14.19. Bennett also placed fifth in the long jump with a distance of 5.14 meters.
Ben Monroe qualified 14th in the men's 100-meter dash in a school-record time of :10.81, which bettered a mark of :11.00 shared by three former Lakers dating back to 1996. Monroe went on to finish 11th in the finals in :10.96 and clocked a time of :22.21 to place 10th in the 200-meter dash.
Justin Balczak was 17th during the 110-meter hurdles preliminaries and missed the finals by one spot, but his time of :14.65 broke Derek Sandahl's school record of :15.00 set in 2001. Balczak was also seventh in the high jump (1.95 meters) and 21st in the 400-meter hurdles (:54.81).
Jason Brenton finished ninth in the pole vault (4.30 meters) and triple jump (14.48 meters). Hans Riedel was 18th in the discus throw (45.50 meters) and 24th in the shot put (13.88 meters).
