GVSU - Indoor Track & Field All-Region Awards Announced

New Orleans, La. - The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced the 2012 USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field All-Region Teams and the Lakers were well represented. The men's squad had 14 honors while the women's team had 29, the second-most in the country.
The top five from each region in individual events and each member of a relay ranked in the region's top three earned all-region distinction for the 2012 indoor season.
The men's team had 10 student-athletes earn 14 honors, led by senior Tyler Emmorey notching three all-region awards (Mile, 5000m, DMR). Sophomore Mohamed Mohamed (800m, DMR) and senior Jeff Nordquist (Mile, DMR) each had two awards. Freshman Trent Chappell (High Jump), junior Raphael Gelo (Pole Vault), sophomore Logan Hoffman (DMR), sophomore Bret Myers (Pole Vault), senior Xavier Parnell (60m), seniorDaniel Vanek (Shot Put) and senior Anthony Witt (5000m) each tallied one all-region award.
On the women's side, 16 student-athletes claimed 29 honors. Senior Chanelle Caldwell had four all-region nods (400m, 800m, 4x400m, DMR), while freshman Brittney Banister (60m, 200m, 4x400), senior Betsy Graney (Mile, 5000m, DMR), and senior Rachel Patterson (Mile, 5000m, DMR) each had three. Sophomore Kalena Franklin(60H, 4x400), sophomore Leiah Hess (400m, 4x400), junior Sam Lockhart (Shot Put, Weight Throw) and seniorKarie McDonald (800m, Mile) each had two accolades. Senior Lauren Buresh (Shot Put), freshman Jordan Chester (DMR), sophomore Kristen Hixson (Pole Vault), senior Monica Kinney (5000m), senior Jocelyn Kuksa(Pole Vault), junior Liz Murphy (Weight Throw) and sophomore Alisha Weaver (High Jump) also were named to the all-region team.
The 12th-ranked GVSU men and the top-ranked GVSU women are currently preparing for the 2012 NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships held March 9th and 10th in Mankato, Minn.
