Northwood - Track Teams Compete At GLIAC Championships

The Northwood University track and field teams competed at the GLIAC Championships Friday and Saturday (February 24-25).
The two-day event was hosted by the University of Findlay.
On the men's side, Northwood placed eighth overall with 33 points. Grand Valley State was the overall winner with 150.5 points, followed by Ashland at 120. Marcus Bennett (Redford, Mich./Thurston) set a GLIAC Championships record in the 60 meter hurdles preliminaries with a time of 8.05. Bennett would go on to place second in the finals at 8.12. Paris Gooch (Mt. Morris, Mich./Flint Beecher) earned the GLIAC title in the long jump, clearing 23-2.50. Korvon Harris (Detroit, Mich./Northwestern) finished fifth in the 60 (6.99), while Chris Wierengo (Rockford, Mich.) was sixth in the heptathlon (4490 points).
The women's team placed 10th overall with 20 points. Kristin Cameron (Algonac, Mich.) earned a pair of NCAA marks, finishing fifth in the shot put (47-3) and fourth in the weight throw (63-10.25). Madison Pines (Troy, Mich.) registered a NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 800, clocking a 2:13.64 to place fifth overall. Katherine Simonson (Calgary, Alberta/College Senior) was fifth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 59.55.
