What are your plans for the weekend? With some snow forecasted for parts of our state and March approaching quickly, this looks to be your last weekend for any winter related races. Are you a high school or college track athlete or fan? Or are you an alumni and want to show your loyalty to your former school? Well this is a great weekend to do that as well. Just be careful in the snow -- driving, running or watching.

For those of you up for something different, there is the 5K Snowshoe Stomp this Saturday, February 25, at the Crystal Mountain Ski Resort in Thompsonville, Michigan. The race gets underway at Crystal Mountain at 10:00 a.m.

Feeling in a Mid-Michigan mood? Then head to Mount Pleasant for an exciting event - the Ice Cube Half Marathon, 10K and 5K. Registration is still open for this race, the second in the Winter Warriors Half Marathon Series, which according to the event's website, is designed for the "toughest winter runners making them the warriors that they are." Sounds both challenging and fun!

Other road-racing events this weekend in the state include the Dash Down Division 5K in Grand Rapids and other group training runs. Check out the Calendar for more details and to find something near you.

This weekend is also shaping up as a great weekend for high school or college track and field fans. For high schoolers, the 2012 MITS (Michigan Indoor Track Series) State Championship Meet will be held Saturday, February 25 at Eastern Michigan University's Bowen Field House. This meet brings together the top high school track and field athletes from the state for the final meet on the 2012 MITS schedule. will be on hand to capture all the action, so check back after the event for photos, results and interviews.

At the MITS finals, top competitors include Hannah Meier from Grosse Pointe Farms (Grosse Pointe South H.S.), who recently ran the fastest 1600 Meter time so far this year in the country. Michigan consistently has produced some of the best track and field athletes in the U.S. This is a great meet to watch. And, thanks to the Michigan Indoor Track Series, it gives the high school track runners and athletes from our state a chance to compete in the winter at some very competitive meets.

Are you a college running fan, former college runner or just like to be "true to your school?" Well this is the weekend for you. Conference Indoor Track and Field championships will be held this weekend for the Big Ten, GLIAC and Summit League conferences. This includes teams from Michigan, Michigan State, Oakland, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, Ferris State, Northern Michigan, Grand Valley, Lake Superior, Northwood, Saginaw Valley and Hillsdale. Michigan and Michigan State will head to Lincoln, Nebraska. Oakland will be in Fort Wayne, Indiana. CMU, EMU and Western will be in Akron for the MAC finals. And our GLIAC schools will be competing in Findlay, Ohio.

Whatever it is you're participating in this weekend, stay safe and have fun!
