GVSU Women - GVSU Reaches NCAA Provisional Mark at Tune-Up Meet

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Grand Valley State women’s indoor track and field team hit 15 provisional and four automatic NCAA qualifying marks at the GVSU Tune-Up meet highlighted by junior Sam Lockhart’s school record toss in the shot put competition on Friday evening at the Kelly Family Sports Center.

Lockhart set a Grand Valley State record with a toss of 16.16 meters, besting the previous record of 16.11m. She also had an NCAA automatic qualifier with a 20.34m toss in the weight throw.

Junior Liz Murphy also set an automatic qualifier mark in the weight throw with a distance of 20.04m, while senior Lauren Buresh tallied a 14.71m throw in the shot put which was also good for an NCAA provisional mark. Rounding out the throwing events, sophomore Alyssa Zokoe (17.29) and junior Jamie Smith (18.61) also passed the provisional mark.

Senior Jocelyn Kuksa improved on her pole vault best with a height of 3.82m, while Alisha Weaver just passed the provisional mark of 1.67m with a leap of 1.68m in the high jump to round out the top field performances.

In the mile run, junior Ashley Botham (4:53.85), junior Julia Nowak (4:54.87), freshman Jordan Chester (4:56.24), sophomore Madie Rodts (4:57.54) and freshman Hannah Osborn (4:59.38) all picked up NCAA provisional times. Botham, Chester, Nowak and Rodts’ times were also season-bests for the runners.

Freshman Brittney Banister set season-best times in both the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.68 seconds, and in the 200-meter dash running a 24.76. Each time hit an NCAA provisional mark. Joining Banister in the 60-meter dash, sophomore Brittney Jackson crossed the line with a season-fastest time of 7.70 mark to reach a provisional mark as well.

In the 800-meter run, freshman Jessica Janecke (2:15.38) and sophomore Lisa Galasso (2:12:42) each hit provisional marks in the event. Also hitting a provisional mark in the 400-meter dash was sophomore Leiah Hess with a time of 56.73.

Sophomore Kalena Franklin rounded out the individuals reaching provisional marks with a 8.64 time in the 60-meter hurdles.

The Grand Valley State 4x400-meter relay team of senior Chanelle Caldwell, Banister, Franklin and Hess also hit a provisional mark with a time of 3:47.28.

GVSU now turns its attention to the GLIAC Championship in Findlay, Ohio beginning on Friday, Feb. 24 at 11 a.m.
