EMU Women - Williams Leads Eagles at Indiana Relays

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team competed in the 2012 Indiana Relays held at Gladstein Fieldhouse Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28. The Eagles accounted for multiple top-five finishes in both Friday's and Saturday's action at Indiana University.
Shantavia Williams was the only Eagle to take a top-place at the relays when she won the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.47, while placing third in the 400-meter dash on Saturday with a 56.09 finish. Angela Scarber had a 57-foot toss in the weight throw, which earned her fifth place honors. Morgan Churchwell took fourth in the one mile run by running a 5:02.21 on Friday evening. On Saturday, Churchwell continued to impress by completing the 800-meter run in 2:14.30, good for fourth as well.
ReJeana Margina and Clark qualified for the semi-final round held Saturday in the 60-meter dash. Margina sprinted the distance in 7.68, while Clark completed the race in 7.80. In the semi-finals, Margina moved ahead to the finals with another 7.68 finish. Clark fell short by completing the race in 7.78. Margina took second in the final round on Saturday with a 7.59, just two-hundredths of a second behind the top-place runner.
The Eagles' 4x400 relay team consisting of Asia Rawls, Margina, Beverly Elcock and Williams placed third after completing the 1,600-meter race. Michigan State University took the top-spot in the relay with a 3:39.79 while EMU's team finished in 3:44.62.
Eastern returns to competition Friday, Feb. 3, when they travel to South Bend, Ind. to take part in the 2012 Meyo Invitational. Competition begins at 3 p.m. on Friday.
