EMU Heads to Ann Arbor for 2012 Simmons-Harvey Invitational

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team travels to Ann Arbor, Mich. Saturday, Jan. 21, for the 2012 Simmons-Harvey Invitational held at the University of Michigan's Indoor Track Building.
The Eagles will compete against four other universities, including Mid-American Conference foe Central Michigan University. The University of Detroit-Mercy and the Wolverines will be the other two teams to oppose Eastern in the invite.
The men's competition is set to begin Saturday, Jan. 21, at 11 a.m. Leading off will be the field events with the long jump, high jump, weight throw and pole vault. Following these events are the triple jump and shot put set tentatively for 12:15 p.m. The track events are slated to begin at 12:00 p.m. with the mile run. After the mile run, the sprints will take over with the races getting progressively longer through the remainder of the day with the 4x400-meter relay to conclude the men's events at 1:25 p.m.
Scoring for the events will be as follows: The top-eight finishers will earn points in the individual events with first place garnering nine points, second with seven, third with six, fourth with five, fifth with four, sixth with three, seventh with two and eighth earning one point. In relay events, the top-four teams will earn points with only the top team per school eligible for a score. The top team will earn nine points, while second place takes seven, third takes six and fourth earns five.
"We are looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish after having two weeks of training and a competitive experience,” said Head Coach John Goodridge. “Hopefully this will help our younger athletes as they continue to gain experience."
The Simmons-Harvey Invitational is one of two meets that the Eagles will take part in at the University of Michigan. Eastern will return to Ann Arbor, Feb. 21, for the Silverston Invitational.
