MSU Freshman, Franklin named Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week

East Lansing, Mich. - Freshman Tori Franklin has been named Big 10 Track and Field "Field Athlete of the Week" for her performance in the triple jump at the Bob Eubanks Open hosted by Grand Valley State University.
Franklin (Westmont, Ill./Downers Grove South) established a new meet record mark of 12.74m (41-09 ¾) in her very first collegiate appearance last Saturday. The jump also ranks first in the Big Ten and third in the nation. The previous meet record was held by Christina Madison of Purdue when she jumped 12.60m in 2010.
The last Spartan to earn Indoor Field Athlete of the Week honors was Beth Rohl on Feb. 14, 2011.
The Spartans continue their indoor season when members of the team will travel to the Notre Dame Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind. on Saturday, January 21st.
