PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Junior Rebecca Addison (Spring Lake, Mich./Grand Haven) of the University of Michigan women's track and field team was named Big Ten Conference Co-Track Athlete of the Week today (Monday, Jan. 16) after winning the 800-meter and mile runs on Saturday (Jan. 14) in the second annual dual meet against 11th-ranked Ohio State.
In Addison's first performance of the 2012 indoor season, she clocked winning times of 2:11.55 and 4:43.64 in the 800-meter and mile, respectively, to help the 19th-ranked Wolverines tie Ohio State, 81-81, in "The Dual." Her 800-meter and mile times currently top the Big Ten and rank fifth and second in the nation, respectively.
This is Addison's third Big Ten weekly honor of her career and first this season. Michigan tallies its second conference award of the season, as sophomore pole vaulter Kiley Tobel (Commerce Twp., Mich./Walled Lake Western) earned Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week on Jan. 9. Addison shared the honor with Ohio State's Christina Manning, who recorded winning performances in the 60-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash at "The Dual."
The Wolverines will return home to host the Simmons-Harvey Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 21). The women's Red Simmons meet is set to start at 1:45 p.m., following the men's Jack Harvey meet, which starts at 11 a.m. at the U-M Indoor Track Building.
