October 22, 2011 - Both the men's and women's cross country teams from Hillsdale College finished in fifth place at Saturday's GLIAC Cross Country Championships, hosted by Ashland University.

The Charger men scored 156 team points, and were led by a pair of runners who finished in the top 20 overall.

Jacob Secor took 16th with a time of 26:24, while teammate Tim Jagielski was one spot behind with a time of 26:26. Freshman Luke Hickman turned in one of his best runs of the season with a third-place finish on the team and 37th overall, completing the race in 27:05.

Grand Valley State won the men's meet in dominating fashion, with five of its runners placing in the top six overall.

The Charger women scored 151 points for their fifth-place finish. Leading the way for the team was junior Amanda Putt, who took sixth overall with a time of 22:08. Only three different teams were represented in the top 10 runners at the meet, and Putt was the only runner from a team other than Ferris State or Grand Valley State to be in the top 10 individual results.

Putt will earn First-Team All-Conference honors for her performance.

Victoria McCaffrey was the second Charger runner, taking 28th overall with a time of 23:41. Freshman Amy Kerst was the team's third-best runner in the meet with a time of 23:54, good for 33rd overall.
