GVSU Finishes Sixth at Michigan Intercollegiate Championships

Hillsdale, Mich. - The fourth-ranked women's cross country team competed in the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships hosted by Hillsdale College on Friday (Oct. 7) and despite sitting many of their top runners, still claimed a sixth-place finish.
Freshman Madie Rodts led the way for the Lakers, finishing eighth overall with a time of 18:53.72, nearly a career-best for her.
Also placing in the top 20 was sophomore Courtney Brewis who finished with a time of 19:17.04.
The Lakers were without their top 12 runners as they rested to prepare for next week's Penn State Invitational.
Michigan State claimed the team title with a 48 point total while the top five was rounded out by Western Michigan (75), Saginaw Valley State (112), Calvin (119) and Hillsdale (139) with the Lakers only five points behind in sixth.
The Lakers will take part in the Penn State National Invitational next Friday (Oct. 14) at 10 a.m. in State College, Pa.
