Hutton, Marcinkowski Lead Oakland Runners at Notre Dame Invite

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Steven Marcinkowski ran a time of 25:37 and finished 19th in the 8K men's race, while Brittni Huttonwas 15th in a time of 18:11 in the 5K women's race to lead the Oakland cross country teams in the Notre Dame Invite on Friday. The Golden Grizzlies men's team finished ninth in the Gold Race, while the women's team was 11th in the Gold race.
"This was a great day for some and a tough day for others," said Oakland head coach Paul Rice, "We need to work on our depth in the next few weeks."
Lia Jones finished with a time of 18:20 to place 20th in the women's race. Hannah Scherer was third on the OU team with a time of 19:35, followed by Cassandra Peterson who crossed in a time of 19:45. Autumn Cleverleyrounded out the OU contingent with a time of 19:48.
Brandon Griffin finished 22nd in the men's race with his time of 25:38. Kenny Wall was also in the top 50, earning 31st place with his time of 25:51. Anthony Sterzickcrossed in a time of 27:00 followed by Cal Magier in 27:10 to round out the Oakland group.
"On the men's side we need better production from our runners in the four and five spot, while I expect the women's team do better at three, four and five," added Rice. "We can and will do better."
Grand Valley State won both the men's and women's Gold races. Audrey Huth from Northwestern won the women's race in a time of 17:29. The men's Gold race champion was Matt Walters from Windsor in a time of 24:54.
The Golden Grizzlies return to action next Friday at the Michigan Intercollegiate. Hillsdale College will host the meet, with the first race starting at 3 p.m.
"We are still training very hard and we will give the team a chance to rest their legs soon," concluded Rice. "With that in mind, we expect to see better performances in two weeks."
