WMU competed at the Mid American Conference Indoor Championships on Frlday and Saturday (Feb. 27-28) in Kent, Ohio. The Broncos finished third of 10 teams with 100.50 points. Western finished behind only Kent (101.50 point) and Eastern Michigan (178.50). Winners for Western were senior Sean Franke in the 5,000 meters (14:45.O1), senior Aaron Oaks in the long jump (24-5) and senior Phil McMullen in the pentathlon (4,187). McMullen's score of 4,187 established new school, MAC and Kent Indoor Fieldhouse records. BRONCO NOTES Six Broncos established new season-best times at the MAC Championships last weekend. They were junior Ryan Johnson in the 55 meters (:06.38), freshman Coye Bouyor in the 400 (:48.68), junior Frank Kinkead in the 3,000 (8:35.34) and the mile (4:18.33), Sean Frank in the 5,000 (14:45.01), senior Antonio Neves in the triple jump (48-4 3/4), Phil McMullen in the pentathlon (4,187) and the 4x400 relay (3:16.85). BRONCO RECORD SETTERS Five Broncos have broken into the Western indoor record books this season. They are Phil McMullen, who set a school record in the heptathlon with a score of 5,380 at the Michigan Intercollegiates on January 30, senior Taron Burgess recorded the fifth best jump (6-11) in the high jump at the Michigan State Invitational on January 17, Aaron Oaks turned in the fifth-best jump in the long jump (24-5 1/2) at the Red Simmons Invitational on Januaty 24, junior Joe Lowandowski recorded the fifth-best throw in the shot put (56-4) on February 14, Junior Adam Takace recorded the fifth best throw in the 35-pound weight throw (61-3) at the Michigan Intercollegiates on January 30 and the sixth-best throw (61-2 3/4) at the MAC Championships on February 28. |
