Michigan tallied 53 points in the 26-team regional, with all five scorers placing in the top 20. For the second straight year, a Wolverine captured the individual regional title as McGregor cruised to victory, finishing over 11 seconds ahead of the field in 17:02.39. Fifth-ranked Wisconsin, which edged Michigan for the Big Ten Conference title on Nov. 1, received the other automatic bid from the Great Lakes Region, winning the team championship with 39 points.
The Wolverine effort was aided by two other top 10-finishers in addition to McGregor. Junior All-American Elizabeth Kampfe (Decatur, Ill./MacArthur HS), the defending regional champion, placed seventh in 17:43.75. She was followed by fifth-year senior All-American Michelle Slater (Rochester, Mich./Adams HS) in ninth place (17:53.24).
Also scoring for Michigan were redshirt sophomore Lisa Ouellet (Sudbury, Ontario/Lasalle SS) and sophomore Katie Clifford (Grand Rapids, Mich./West Catholic HS) in 17th and 19th place, respectively.
The NCAA Championship will be hosted by the University of Kansas on Monday, Nov. 23, at Rim Rock Farm. Joining Michigan and Wisconsin at the national meet will be the top two teams from the other eight regions, along with 13 teams which will received at-large bids.
