'M' Men Move Up to No. 6 in NCAA Cross Country Poll
- ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan moved up from
seventh to sixth in the latest NCAA Division I Men's Cross Country poll,
selected by active members of the United States Cross Country Coaches
Association and released Oct. 6. The Wolverines are the highest ranked Big
Ten Conference team and are joined in the top 25 by No. 9 Michigan State,
No. 14 Wisconsin and No. 21 Minnesota.
Michigan travels to Orono, Maine, for Saturday's (Oct. 10) Murray Keatinge
Invitational, where the Wolverines will defend their team and individual
titles from a year ago. Senior John Mortimer (Londonderry,
N.H./Londonderry HS) set a course record in 1997 en route to the
individual title, while the Wolverines scored just 27 points in the
14-team field with a 1-2-6-7-11 finish.
