Longe Garners All-America Status in Final Performance as a
Wolverine
- Buffalo, NY -- In the final meet of Michigan's most decorated
female track and field athlete ever, Tania Longe (Sellebakk, Norway/St.
Olav) became an All-America performer for the second time in her
illustrious collegiate career.
- Longe finished seventh in the heptathlon with 5364 points and gave
the Michigan women's track squad their initial points of the 1998 NCAA
Outdoor Championships. Longe closes out her Maize and Blue career as a
nine-time Big Ten champion and two-time All-America. Also competing for
Michigan during day two of competition was sophomore sprinter Maria Brown
(Kingston, Jamaica/Immaculate Conception). Brown did not qualify for the
semi-finals in the 100-m dash after finishing eighth in her heat with a
time of 12.09.
- Notes:
- -- Longe's other All-America campaign came when she finished 9th in
the heptathlon at the 1995 NCAA Outdoor Championships with 5333 points.
