Kampfe Earns All-America Honor at NCAA Outdoor Championship

Buffalo, NY -- Elizabeth Kampfe (Decatur, IL/MacArthur HS) ran the best 10,000-meters of her life at the 1998 NCAA Outdoor Championship to earn a ninth place finish and her second track and field All-America citation.

Kampfe finished ninth with a pace of 34:35.56 and was named All-America for running the eighth fastest time among the American contingent in the race. In addition, Tania Longe (Sellebakk, Norway/St. Olav) is sixth in the heptathlon after the first day of competition with her best events, the triple jump and long jump, still to come in the second day of competition.

Notes:
-- Kampfe is the third Michigan runner to earn All-America honors in the 10,000-m run. The other two being Lisa Larsen and Melanie Weaver, both in 1983.

-- Kampfe has now been named All-America three times during the 1997-98 campaign after also earning that recognition in cross country and indoor track and field.
