Kampfe Earns All-America Honor at NCAA Outdoor Championship
- Buffalo, NY -- Elizabeth Kampfe (Decatur, IL/MacArthur HS) ran
the best 10,000-meters of her life at the 1998 NCAA Outdoor Championship
to earn a ninth place finish and her second track and field All-America
citation.
- Kampfe finished ninth with a pace of 34:35.56 and was named
All-America for running the eighth fastest time among the American
contingent in the race. In addition, Tania Longe (Sellebakk, Norway/St.
Olav) is sixth in the heptathlon after the first day of competition with
her best events, the triple jump and long jump, still to come in the
second day of competition.
- Notes:
- -- Kampfe is the third Michigan runner to earn All-America honors in
the 10,000-m run. The other two being Lisa Larsen and Melanie Weaver, both
in 1983.
- -- Kampfe has now been named All-America three times during the
1997-98 campaign after also earning that recognition in cross country and
indoor track and field.
