Weekly Release

Upcoming Schedule
Friday-Saturday, April 17-18 -- at Mt. SAC Relays (Walnut, Calif.)
Friday - Saturday, April 24-25 -- at Drake Relays (Des Moines, Iowa)

Women Return to West After Week Off
Like the men's team, the Michigan women will take a break the April 11-12 weekend before making a return western trip to Walnut, Calif., for the Mt. SAC Relays on April 17-18. The women will be sending the entire Wolverine squad to compete in the meet which will include some of the best athletes in collegiate track and field.

Wolverine Women Finish As Runners-up
Only host school Southern California, who has been running outside for months, could prevent another team victory for the Wolverines. Instead, Michigan finished second with 49 points while the powerful USC women recorded 76 points. Arizona finished with 43 points while Ohio State scored 28 to round the foursome for the April 4 weekend meet in Los Angeles.

Forrester Notches Third Straight
Perhaps the steadiest Michigan women's track athlete of the 1998 campaign is two-time All-American high jumper Nicole Forrester (Cookstown, ONT/Banting HS). Forrester garnered a high jump victory for the third consecutive week with a leap of 5-8. Forrester preceded that victory with wins in the Jamaica Invitational and Arizona State Invitational the previous two weekends.

Thrower Earns Victory in Second Try
In only her second meet of the season, senior javelin thrower Amy Johnson (Ottawa, IL/Ottawa HS) earned her initial victory of the 1998 season. Johnson won the event with a toss of 115-9 at the April 4 USC-Arizona-Michigan-Ohio State meet.

Another Record
For the second time in three weeks the women's 4x100-meter relay team set a Michigan record, this time running a 45.43. The foursome consisted of sophomores Kenise Bocage (Aurora, CO/George Washington HS) and Maria Brown (Kingston, Jamaica/Immaculate Conception) as well as freshmen Tamika Craig (Inkster, MI/Robichaud HS) and Regine Caruthers (Inglewood, CA/St. Bernard HS).
