Wolverine High Jumper Rolls On

Des Moines, IA -- Although only competing in two events during the first day of competition at the highly competitive Drake Relays, Michigan's women track and field athletes represented their school well as they garnered first and second place finishes.

The Michigan victory came from the ultra-consistent high jumper Nicole Forrester (Cookstown, ONT/Banting HS), who only a week after setting the Michigan outdoor high jump record at 6-3 1/4, came back to gain a victory in the deep and talented Drake Relays with a leap of 6-2. In six outdoor meets this season Forrester has notched victories on five occasions to further place herself as the greatest high jumper in school history.

The only other event Michigan competed in on Friday was the distance medley relay, which put together an impressive race while finishing second (11:17.46). Senior Michelle Slater (Rochester, MI/Adams HS) ran the opening leg of 1200-meters and was followed by Adrienne Hunter (Ann Arbor, MI/Pioneer HS) in the 400-meter leg. Stalwarts Sarah Hamilton (Canton, MI/Salem HS), in the 800-meter leg, and Katie McGregor (Willoughby, OH/Willoughby South HS), in the anchor leg of a mile, finished off the Wolverine effort.

NOTES:

-- Hunter, Hamilton and McGregor were part of Michigan's national champion distance medley relay team at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
