Wolverines Distance Group Keeps On Rolling

Tempe, AZ -- After their stellar indoor campaign, the Michigan distance runners have continued where they left off with a strong first day of competition at the Arizonal State Castillo Invitational

Michigan owned the 1500-meter run by securing four of the top six places. Indoor 3000-meter national champion Katie McGregor (Willoughby, OH/Willoughby South HS) led the charge by winning the race with a time of 4:25.0 while fellow junior Sarah Hamilton (Canton, MI/Salem HS) finished second with a pace of 4:26.0. Rounding out Michigan's impressive foursome was Michelle Slater (Rochester Hills, MI/Adams HS) in fourth (4:27.8) and Lisa Ouellet (Sudbury, ONT/Lasalle Secondary) in sixth (4:30.8)

The other distance event that the Maize and Blue was well represented in came from the 5000-meter run where they notched two of the top six positions. Allison Noe (Plano, TX/Harrison HS) made a strong return after sitting out much of the indoor campaign with a third place finish in the 5000-meters at a pace of 17:50.3. Noe was joined by senior Tiffin Goodman (Fairfield, CT/Hopkins HS), who finished sixth (17:55.6). Representing Michigan's field athletes with her second consecutive strong outing in the outdoor triple jump was senior Ndu Okwumabua (Plymouth, MI/Canton HS). Okwumabua garnered a second place slot with a leap of 39-2 1/4.

NOTES:

-- Hamilton's pace of 4:26.0 in the 1500-meter run is a new personal best, 13 seconds better than her previous time

-- Senior Slater also ran a new personal best in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:27.8
