TITAN WOMEN CLAIM MCC INDOOR TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP The Detroit Titan women's track and field team won the MCC indoor Championships Saturday in Indianapolis. UDM totaled 54 points to Iead the four entrants, while runner up UW-Milwaukee had 46. Sophomore sprinter Shireese Statin (Detroit, Ml/Denby) was a double winner fur UDM, taking the 55 meters in 7.29 seconds, and the 200 in 25.21, setting MCC and school records in the latter race. Senior Kim Jess (Dearborn Heights, MI/Crestwood) won her fourth MCC indour high jump championship with a jump of 5'6". And freshman Angie Lefere (Jackson, Ml/Lumen Christi) won the 5OOO meters in a UDM rookie record in the of 17:54.9. She was named Newcomer of the Year for the MCC's running events, following up the same award she won this fall for cross country. Additionally, UDM's Guy Murray was named Coach of the Year. "It was an amazing team effort," Murray smiled. "Everyone came through with the performances we'd hoped they could do. I'm very proud of the team. They believed in each other." |

DETROIT MEN THIRD IN MCC TRACK The UDM Men's track and field team, came in third out of four teams at Saturday's MCC Indoor Championship. Thc Titans earned 30 points in the competition, but trailed UW-Milwaukee (92) and Butler (36) in the final standings. Two Titans won individual titles -- senior Mark Risch (Riga, MI/Blissfield) with a time of 49.59 seconds in the 400 meters, and freshman Jay Jubenville (Flint, MI/Powers) with a Titan record of 49'5" in the shotput. Jubenville was numed MCC Newcomer oF the Year for field events. Additionally, junior Corey Stedman (Ortonville,MI/Warrcn Cousino) finished secund in the mile run (UDM record time of 4. 10.3) and the 1000 meters (2:30.17). "Corey had an awesome day. Unfortunately, he ran into the two best athletes in the MCC in losing to (UWM's Cory) Peterson and (Butler's Julius) Mwangi," coach Guy Murray noted. "Jay Jubenville has quickly adjusted to the college implements and quickly proved he is a quality Division I athlete. He could be very good for us in the future." |
