Defiance, Ohio - The women had their highest finish ever in an invitational as
they finished second out of 12 teams at the Defiance Invitational in Defiance,
OH. The ladies were led for the first time this season by Jennifer Kunst with a
time of 19:56 on the tough course good for 4th place. The next finisher for OU
was Betsy Speer in 7th place with a time of 20:21, and nipping closely at her
heels was Jeanine Chura in 8th place with a time of 20:28. Rounding out the
scoring was Ann Dzeroogian in 21st place with a time of 21:51, and Kelly
Fradette in 28th place with a time of 22:16. Other OU finishers included Kristin
Lenderman at 22:40 (after taking a pretty good spill about half way), Colleen
Fradette at 23:10, and Beth Knight at 23:58. Times were slow, the course was
unusually tough, but the women came through with smiling faces!
The men achieved something that has not been achieved since 1995. THEY WON THE
MEET! The guys really sucked it up and showed that hard work really does pay
off. The men were led once again by Freshman Bill Monnett who placed second on a
lean at the line with a time of 27:18, followed by Ryan Bissell in ninth place
with a time of 28:13, and just one second behind in 10th place was Brian
Phillips at 28:14. Completing the winning score was Kurt Brinker in 12th place
at 28:29, and Scott Turner in 22nd place at 29:12. Rounding out the rest of the
men were Kevin Donovan at 30:01, Josh Lyon at 30:07, Mark Jenkins at 30:13, Matt
Pardo at 32:09, and Andy McCloskey (who is battling a bad foot) at 32:27.
