Ann Arbor, Michigan - Ann Arbor's Karen Harvey has been selected to the Canadian Team for the '98 Goodwill Games. Karen will be competing for Canada in the Women's 3000 Meter Steeplechase.
The Goodwill Games are an international, multi-sport invitational that unites the world's best athletes. The 1998 Goodwill Games are being held in the New York (N.Y.) metropolitan area, from July 19th to August 2nd. The Games have approximately 1,500 athletes from more than 60 countries, in 15 different sports. The Games have their signature, "finals-only" format for individual events, which means there are no preliminaries or qualification heats. The Women's 3000 Meter Steeplechase is scheduled for Sunday July 19th at the Nassau County Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, N.Y.
The University of Michigan Alumni and All-American also competed for Canada on a Relay Road Race April 12th in Seoul, Korea. Karen ran the anchor leg (4.2km) for Canada in the Relay Road race, and helped Canada to an 11th place finish out of 18 teams.
