Merrillville, Indiana... Ellsworth High School senior Jenny Drenth captured two AAU National Indoor Track
Championships this weekend. Running for Northern Michigan track
Club, Drenth on Saturday , running her first
800 meters of the year, ran 2:26.79 to edged out Minai
Lauterbach of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (2:27.8) in the age group.
On Sunday Drenth set a new 17-18 AAU National
age group indoor record in the 1500Meters (4:57.37) by
fighting off Terry Vega (4:59.38) of the Southern California
Track Club for her second championship in two days.
Drenth a first team all state basketball player for Ellsworth
is the defending Class D 800 Meters Champion running for
Central Lake in a co-op program. She has made official
visits to the University of Michigan,the University of Notre
Dame, and will be visiting Arizona State University later
this month. Drenth winds up the indoor season at the MITCA
State High School Champions March 17.
