ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team demonstrated why it is the reigning Big Ten Champion as the Wolverines won the Michigan Quadrangular meet held at the U-M Track Building on Saturday (Jan. 16). The Wolverines had several performances that keyed their success as they finished first with 189 points to defeat Indiana University (167), the University of Kansas (68) and Michigan State University (48).

The Maize and Blue harriers had seven individual victories, three 1-2 finishes, two NCAA provisional standards, one relay win and one U-M Fieldhouse record.

Junior Brandi Bentley (Detroit, Mich./Marian HS) led a 1-2-3 sweep in the long jump for the Wolverines. Her jump of 20 feet, 1 inch established a new U-M Fieldhouse record and was good enough to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships in March.

Senior Nicole Forrester (Cookstown, Ontario/Banting HS) won the high jump for the second consecutive week over fellow freshmanNicole Denamur (Algoma, Wis./Algoma HS). Forrester's jump of 6 feet was an NCAA provisional qualifying standard.

Other Wolverines winning individual events were sophomore RegineCaruthers (Inglewood, Calif./St. Bernard HS) in the 400-meter run, sophomore All-American Adrienne Hunter (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer HS) in the 600-meter run, senior All-American Sarah Hamilton (Canton, Mich./Salem HS) in the 800-meter run, senior Michelle Slater (Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams HS) in the mile run and junior All-American Elizabeth Kampfe (Decatur, Ill./MacArthur HS) in the 3000-meter run. The Wolverine 1600-meter relay was victorious as well.

Next week Michigan will host the Red Simmons Invitational at the U-M Track Building on Saturday, Jan. 23. The field events will start at 9:30 a.m., with the running events beginning at noon.
