Snyder, Wisniewski Finish 1-2, Lead U-M at Meyo Invite
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The University of Michigan men's track and fieldteam traveled to South Bend, Ind., to compete at the ninth annual MeyoInvitational, hosting by Notre Dame on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 5-6). Four Wolverines won individual titles, including a 1-2 sweep in the men's 5000-meter run.
The Meyo Invitational is one of the premier collegiate indoormeets, with Michigan going against competition from across the United States and Canada. The other teams competing against the Wolverines were theUniversity of Alabama, Illinois State University, University of Notre Dameand Western Ontario University.
Senior Todd Snyder (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer HS) and sophomoreMike Wisniewski (Temperance, Mich./Bedford HS) finished 1-2 in the 5000-meter run to start the meet off for the Wolverines. Snyder's time of 14:26.69 was four seconds faster than his previous personal best and marked the second straight week that the senior has won the event.
Two Wolverine freshmen are still making their presence felt.Robert Arnold (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty HS) and Jeremy Schneider (BloomfieldHills, Mich./Andover HS) were each victorious in an individual event forMichigan. Arnold won the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 8 inches, marking the first time that Arnold has won an event for the Maize and Blueharriers. Schneider won the 500-meter run by nearly asecond over Notre Dame's Terry Wray, marking the second straightweek that he has been an indivudual champion.
Sophomore Dan Snyder (St. John's Mich./St. John's HS) won the800-meter run for his first individual win onthe season. Snyder's time of 1:54.55 shaved 29 one-hundreths of a secondoff his personal best in the 800.
Up next for the Michigan track and field team is the ColoradoSprings Classic in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Friday,Feb. 12.
