Sullivan 5th in Athletissima 1500 Meter

Athletissima - Lausanne, Switzerland -- Grand Prix Track & Field On July 2nd over 15000 fans were on hand to watch the Track & Field events. The 1500 meter at Athletissima was not scheduled until 10:20pm, race time temperature was 25 degrees Celsius with only a trace of a breeze. Sullivan said "During my warmup I had a feeling it was going to be a good night." The race was flying right from the gun. The rabbits lead Noah Ngeny through splits of 53.54 and 1:51.54 at 400m and 800m respectively. Sullivan started near the back and worked his way through the field, his splits were 56 and 1:54 at 400m and 800m respectively. The rabbits peeled off and Ngeny took over and cruised through 1200m in 2:49.97. Sullivan had worked his way to 5th place by this point and with 150 to go was in fourth. After the race Sullivan said "I had my sights set on 2nd but was not able to make up the ground, and Youssef Baba went by me with 50m". Sullivan crossed the line in a new personal best of 3:34.61 which was also faster than the qualifying time he needed for this years World Championships in Seville, Spain as well as next years Olympic Games. Sullivan said "All in all I thought it was a pretty good night for my first race over here in Europe." Sullivan will be competing in the 1500 at Golden Gala in Rome, Italy on July 7th, this race will also feature 1500m world record holder Hicham EL GUEROUJ, 3:26:00. Hicham set the record a year ago at the Golden Gala in Rome.
