Cook Named Athlete of the Week
January
23, 2002
Senior Ruthie Cook (Lansing, MI/Waverly HS) has been selected Horizon League Athlete of the Week for women's indoor track and field, the conference announced on Wednesday (January 23). Cook won two events, the mile and 800-meter, at the Bowling Green Quints last weekend (January 19).
Cook cruised to the mile victory in a personal best of 4:58.99. The mark represents the top time thus far among all Horizon League competitors.
She also emerged victorious in the 800-meter event for the second time this season, clocking in at a time of 2:18.05.
In her final season of active competition, Cook earned all-League honors during the recently-concluded cross country season. She is already off to a fast start during the indoor campaign as well.
The women's indoor track and field squad will be back in action on Saturday (January 26), when they travel to the Michigan Intercollegiates, hosted by the University of Michigan.
