PERFECT PARTNERS: DEXTER ANN ARBOR RUN & TASTE OF ANN ARBOR
The 29th Dexter Ann Arbor Run events begin this Saturday, June 1, with the
kids race, expo and packet pick-up at Pioneer High School, 2-6 pm. On
Sunday, June 2, the races include the traditional half-marathon, a 5K run
or fitness walk and a new half-marathon relay for 2 person teams. Run the
race along the beautiful Huron River, collect the shirt available only to
race finishers, then do some serious replenishing at the Taste of Ann
Arbor, when members of Ann Arbor's famed "restaurant row" present their
distinctive fare in a downtown festival setting. ). See
http://dexterannarborrun.com for details.
Michigan Runner TV will be there to capture the highlights; the show will
be available a couple of days after the race. http://michiganrunner.tv.
AGENT COLEEN ROWLEY - "COMPETITIVE LONG-DISTANCE RUNNER"
We were following the story of FBI Agent Coleen Rowley, who has been
making headlines with her 13 page memo to FBI director Robert Mueller.
Time magazine's cover story described Agent Rowley's FBI career and
character: "Despite the stress and the risks, Rowley, a suburban mother
of four, has never worked anywhere else. She is the family breadwinner, a
competitive long-distance runner, a person, by all accounts, of
substance."
We have to smile at the "Competitive long-distance runner" and "person .
of substance" in the same sentence. A Google search revealed that Rowley
is definitely ahead of the curve in road races and triathlons.
DIVISION II, MITCA TEAM MEETS
We traveled to Corunna, Michigan for the High School Division II, MITCA
Team Meet last weekend. The folks at Corunna did a terrific job hosting
the meet and making us all feel at home. We only wish weather had been a
little more cooperative. At these MITCA team meets, every athlete counts
for team scores. The result is an event that is fun to watch with great
racing and competition for every single place. We congratulate team
champions Three Rivers Boys Track and Grand Rapids Christian Girls Track.
East Lansing Boys Track and Ypsilanti Girls Track were second. For
complete results see http://members.tripod.com/aldrich_1/mitca_team.htm.
