ST. PATRICK'S DAY RACES

* The 4 Mile Shillelagh features a downhill finish in downtown Flushing, Noon.
* This Lundberg Farmhouse 5K is a new race honoring Hillsdale College coach Bill Lundberg, Hillsdale, 10am.
* Shamrock Shuffle, 5K, Traverse City, 10 am
* Spectrum Irish Jig 5K in Grand Rapids is the Michigan Runner Race Series 5K title race, 9am.
* The St. Patrick's Day 5K in Clare is one of Michigan's oldest St. Patrick's Day races, 9:00 am
-----Sunday, March 17-----
* The YMCA sponsors the St. Patrick's Day 5K in Jackson, 2pm
* St. Patrick's Day Pot O'Gold Shuffle 4MR/W in Flint, 10am. Check out the Oakland University Men's X-C team running in dresses.
* Al Kayner/St. Patrick's Day Road Races, 8KR, 5KR/W, Essexville, 10:45 am. This race is named for long-time race director, Al Kayner, who died last Fall.
* The Running Factory in Windsor sponsors the Spring Thaw, 9:am.

NY ROAD RUNNERS WILL ANNOUNCE BROE, HANSONS' TEAM IN 8K
The New York Road Runners (NYRR) confirmed that Ann Arbor-based Tim Broe will be competing for the USA Men's 8K Championship on Saturday April 6 in New York's Central Park.
Joining Broe will be Hanson's Team members Jeff Campbell, Jason Hubbard, Trent Briney, Brian Sell, Joe Gibson and Rickie Brinker. The NYRR will put up a bonus of $25,000 for breaking Alberto Salazar's American record at the 8K Championship race it was announced earlier by Allan Steinfeld, President and CEO of the NYRR.
Salazar, three time winner of the New York City Marathon (1980-82) and Hall of Fame great, has held the American mark (22:04) since 1981. In addition to the bonus money a field of approximately 50 of the top American road racers will be competing for a guaranteed prize money purse of $20,000.

MICHIGAN HIGH SCHOOL RUNNERS SET NATIONAL INDOOR MARKS
The North Kent Running Club girls continued their dominance of national relay races last weekend by taking the Distance Medley Relay (DMR) and 4 x 1 Mile races at the Nike Indoor Classic, the premier post-season national indoor meet for high school track and field in the United States. DMR A runners were Kelsey Toedebusch, Lisa Kruger, Kristi Powers, and Nikki Bohnsack. 4 x 1 mile A runners were national indoor meet for high school track and field in the United States. DMR A runners were Kelsey Toedebusch, Lindsey Stebbins, Laura Nelson and Nikki Bohnsack.
The North Kent Running Club B team showed their club's amazing depth by winning 6th in the 4 x 1 mile and 11th in the DMR. DMR B team runners were Laura Nelson, Lindsay Stebbins, Michelle Harrold and Brittney Ogden. 4 x 1 mile B team members were Kristi Powers, Michelle Harrold, Katia Jorgensen and Brittney Ogden.
Also last weekend, the Bauman's Track Club ran the second fastest distance medley relay ever in Michigan history at New York Armory's track. Team members Chris Catton, Lesley Harris, Joel Conn and Jason Schoener ran 10:17:46 to better 10:13:1 (converted from 10:17.1 yards) by Grosse Pointe North in 1977.
