AMBY BURFOOT TO SPEAK AT FROZEN FOOT RACE, TRAVERSE CITY
Boston Marathon winner and Runner's World Editor Amby Burfoot will be the
featured speaker as the Traverse City Track Club kicks off its racing
season this weekend. The public is invited to the Friday night program,
January 18, 7:00 pm, at the Northwest Michigan College Auditorium in
Traverse City. There is no charge for admission. The Club then hosts their
annual Frozen Foot Race the next day, Saturday, January 19. The 5 mile run
or 2 Mile run/walk begins at 10 am at the Eastern Elementary Cafeteria,
1600 Eastern Avenue, Traverse City. For more information call

GREG MEYER WILL RUN 25TH FIFTH THIRD RIVER BANK RUN
The Grand Rapids Press reported on Sunday that Greg Meyer is planning to
run the 25th annual Fifth Third River Bank Run on May 11. As the Official
Coach for the River Bank Run, Meyer provides rookie and veteran training
programs for the 25K event. The race attracts an international field of
elite athletes and serves as the US 25K championship. In addition to his
1983 Boston Marathon title, Meyer holds seven River Bank Run
championships. "Because I'm now an old runner with a bad back, that
training schedule I devised better be a good one, because I'm following it
to make my one, and only, race comeback," said Meyer to Grand Rapids Press

GAZELLE SPORTS OFFERS RIVER BANK RUN TRAINING CLINICS
Gazelle Sports begins a series of three training clinics for the 25th
Annual Fifth Third River Bank Run, Thursday night, January 17, 7pm at the
GR Sports Center, 1640 East Paris S.E. in Grand Rapids. Phyusical
Therapist/Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist Scott Miller will
discuss injury prevention, prevention techniques, stretching and
strengthening exercises. This session was developed by runners. for
runners. February's clinic topic is Woman-to-Woman, featuring Amy Wing,
2001 Michigan Runner of the Year. At the March clinic, 25K champion John
Sence will talk about what it takes to train effectively for a 25K. See

BROE, SULLIVAN, BRANNEN WILL RACE AT RED SIMMONS INVITE
The 3000 meter men's race at the University of Michigan's Red Simmons
Invitational indoor track meet on Saturday is loaded with talent. The
University of Michigan's Athletic Department reports that Tim Broe, ranked
by USATF as #1 in the 3000 and the steeplechase, Freshman Nate Brannen,
the sub 4 miler from Cambridge, Ontario, and Kevin Sullivan, owner of the
Canadian indoor mile record are expected to race Saturday. Freshman Alan
Webb and NCAA cross country Boaz Cheboiywo are not expected to race on
Saturday. The event begins at 9:30 am, January 19; running events begin at
