Notre Dame track and field competes at the Tom Botts Invitational

Women's Track and Field Finishes Second, Men Third at the Tom Botts
Invitational

Irish claim 13 event titles at meet hosted by the University of Missouri.

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- (4-14-01) The University of Notre Dame men's and
women's track and field teams competed at the Tom Botts Invitational in
Columbia, Mo., this weekend and walked away with a third place and second
place finish, respectively.
The women's team was edged by Missouri 234-208, while the men's
team finished behind Air Force (226) and Missouri (204) with 169 points.
Freshman Kristen Dodd (Toledo, Ohio) continued her impressive
outdoor campaign for the women's team by capturing the 100- and 200-meter
dash titles. She took the 100 in 12.17 and the 200 in 24.56. Classmate
Ayesha Boyd (Spartanburg, SC) made it a clean sweep for the Irish in the
individual sprints by winning the 400 meters in 55.58.
Senior Carri Lenz (London, Ontario) won the 400-meter hurdles with
a 1:02.28 performance and the Notre Dame 4x100 meter relay team placed
first in 46.30.
In the field events for the women, Jaime Volkmer (Kearney, Neb.)
turned in one of the better meets of her career. She won the pole vault by
clearing a school-record 11-10 and place first in the triple jump (38-11
1/2), while also finishing fourth in the long jump (18-3 3/4). Tameisha
King (Mableton, Ga.) claimed first place in the long jump competition with
a 20-3 1/2 mark.
Dore DeBartolo (Aurora, Ill.) claimed two event victories, winning
the shot put with a 47-5 3/4 toss and the hammer throw with a 178-2
measurement.
For the men's team, Travis Davey (St. James, NY) won the 100 meters
in 10.68 and cross country All-American Pat Conway (Springfield, Va.) took
first place in his first 1,500 meter outdoor race of the season (3:50.09).
Freshman David Alber (Dayton, Ohio) continues to show promise in
the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing second at this weekend's meet in
9:26.79.
Out in the field events on the men's side, junior Josh Heck
(Mishawaka, Ind.) cleared a personal-best 16-0 to win the pole vault
competition while Quill Redwine (San Antonio, Texas) and BIG EAST Indoor
Champion Andrew Cooper (Granville, Ohio) finished second and third,
respectively, in the high jump.
The Irish will now begin preparations for the Mt. SAC Relays in
Walnut, Calif. next weekend.
