Cross Country Receives Commitment From Novi's Tim Moore
One of the top distance runners in Michigan will be a freshman for the Irish
next fall.
NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- (11-20-01) University of Notre Dame head men's cross
country coach Joe Piane, fresh off being named the 2001 National Cross
Country Coach of the Year and helping his team to a sixth-place finish at
the NCAA Championship, has announced that Tim Moore (Novi, Mich.) has signed
a national letter-of-intent to enroll at Notre Dame next season and compete
for the men's cross country and track and field teams.
The 2001 individual Michigan state cross country champion after
finishing third at the state meet in '99 and '00, Moore was the top
underclassmen finisher at the 2000 Footlocker National meet (eighth place)
and also excelled during the track and field season in the distance lane.
"Tim will be able to slip right and be in our top five next year," Piane
says.
"We are very excited that he has chosen to be a part of our program."
Moore hails from the same high school (Novi) as current Irish junior
Kevin Avenius.
