THE BELLE ISLE NEW YEARS EVE RUN
Celebrate the New Year with one of Michigan's most storied races New Years Eve at 3:30 pm. The 32nd Annual Belle Isle 4 mile run is a great run for adults and a terrific starter race for youngsters. Every kid who runs the 1 mile gets to bring home a trophy. You can help Jeanne Bocci keep the tradition going and run one of the few events left on Belle Isle. Michigan Runner TV will be there to capture the action on video for the first Internet television show of 2002.

One of the things I got for Christmas was time: time to run around the neighborhood and check out the Christmas lights, and time to check out letsrun.com's NCAA photos of both the women's and men's races. They have lots of photos on the course at different stages in the races. This is where the races really happen and you can see the development of several of the individual races for the team standings. This is particularly true of the men's race, the one in which Colorado beat Stanford by 1 point. Yes, 1 point. Pictured are Ryan Shay (6th-Central Lake/Notre Dame), Dathan Ritzenhein (4th-Rockford/Colorado), Alan Webb (11th-South Lakes, VA/Universty of Michian), and Boaz Cheboiywo (1st-Kenya Tambach College/Eastern Michigan. I also enjoyed letsrun.com's photo and story of President "W" with Paul Tergat and Moses Tanui. "W" not only knows who's important in running, he knows a photo op when he sees one.

MICHIGAN RUNNING NEWS ON THE ROAD Gaylord: The miles of cross country trails maintained by the DNR around Otsego Lake got the big Christmas Eve snow just in time. For a really special treat, you can ski on lighted trails at night at Marsh Ridge Resort.
