Ann Arbor - WORLD CLASS DISTANCE RUNNING COMES TO MICHIGAN
Mark your calandars, tell your friends and attend the June 10 First
Annual Michigan International Olympic Development High Performance Track
Invitational which will be held at Plymouth
Canton-Salem Stadium(Joy Road) beginning at 7 PM.
Some of the best track athletes in the world, including Olympians, World
Championship competitors, Olympic Trials qualifiers and those seeking
qualifying times will all be in attendance for what promises to be an
exciting evening of track competition heading into this summer's Olympic
Trials and the Sydney Olympic Games.
The Men's Mile is the feature event as an outstanding field is prepared
to assault the sub 4:00 mile and post the fastest mile ever run in the
state.
Michigan grad Kevin Sullivan, the 15th fastest miler in the world last
year and 1996 USA Olympian and EMU grad Paul McMullen highlight an excellent
field while the Women's 1500 meter has a very strong field led by USA
Indoor National Mile runnerup Colette Liss.
High school milers interested in competing in high school sections should

as soon as possible.
"This meet has just been waiting to happen", said Meet Director John
Goodridge of host Athletics America. "We are fortunate to have so many
outstanding international level athletes training here in Michigan and
I have always felt that the Michigan running community is supportive
of their efforts. This is the moment to bring the running community
together to cheer and support these athletres on to great oerformances
and a very exciting night of track racing for all of us."
Admission is $5.00 with proceeds towards Olympic Development funding.
Athletics America is a non-profit 501C tax deductible organization based
in Ann Arbor. Athletics America is coached/directed by Francie and John
Goodridge. Francie is the first Michigan woman to make a United States
Olympic Team(1968 Mexico City 800 and 1972 Munich 1500). She is a member
of the Michigan Track Hall of Fame and University of Michigan Hall of
Honor. She is a former American and World Record-holder. John has coached
eighteen athletes that have represented the US in international competition
including two medalists. Five of their Athletics America athletes have
already qualified for the Olympic Trials.
