An estimated 43 million Americans, 1.5 million of them in Michigan, have arthritis. Arthritis refers to more than 100 different diseases, which affect areas around joints but also can affect other parts of the body. It causes pain and loss of movement, and is the leading cause of disability in the United States.
Donations to the Arthritis Foundation help support research into the cause, cure, prevention, and treatment of the various forms of arthritis and related diseases. The Arthritis Foundation, Michigan chapter spends about 88% of its revenue from events such as Joints in Motion and other fund raising activities on research and quality of life programs.
A variety of Arthritis Foundation quality of life programs and support and education groups are also available from the Arthritis Foundation to help persons with arthritis take a more active part in their care.
