Hanley Huskies Cross Country team won 4 trophies yesterday!

We are pleased to announce that the Hanley Huskies Cross Country team won 4 trophies yesterday!!!

The boys won FIRST PLACE for the regular season and FIRST PLACE in the League Championship Meet. The girls won FIRST PLACE for the regular season and SECOND PLACE in the League Championship Meet. Runners that placed 1st through 15th were given medals for their individual accomplishments. We had 6 boys and 6 girls receive medals. This is our first year participating in the Southeastern Athletic Conference for cross country. For the past two months we’ve competed against 8 other schools at Cass Benton Park in Northville. Middle school runners run 1.7 miles over a course that’s filled with trails, hills, woods, and dirt paths. Needless to say, it was definitely different compared to our Hamtramck sidewalks!

As coaches, we’ve been blessed with a phenomenal group of 18 runners, who are willing to challenge themselves and test their limits athletically and mentally.

They’re learning self-discipline, leadership, and teamwork with each practice and race. Nothing is more rewarding than watching kids like Dijon Quiney run the entire race without walking and then cheer on his teammates as they finish.

It’s hard to beat the feeling you get when you watch Devin Myles, who just lost his step-father to a car accident, beat adversity and come in first place overall.

Now the expectation is even higher for Hanley Athletics! We embrace our haters and love our supporters! GO HUSKIES!
