Caitlin Collier’s 800m win at FSU Relays earns her USATF Athlete of the Week

Caitlin Collier (Jacksonville, Florida) ran the fastest high school girls’ 800 meters of the season at the Florida State Relays to earn USATF Athlete of the Week.




Collier, the 800m bronze medalist for Team USATF at the 2017 Pan American Junior Championships in Mexico, ran 2:04.87 to win by almost nine seconds. The Bolles School senior also dominated the 1,600m, winning by more than seven seconds in 4:47.61.




Other notable performances from the weekend:



Maggie Ewen — Ewen had the ninth-best throw in collegiate women’s hammer history, recording a 72.28m/237-2 to win the Pac-12 vs. Big Ten Challenge at Tempe, Arizona. She also won the discus with a throw of 60.01m/196-10.



Candyce McGrone — McGrone won the 100m with a windy 11.39, and then helped USA Red to a 44.12 win in the women’s 4x100m relay at the Prairie View Relays.



Michael Norman — Norman won the 200m in 20.37, and then anchored the USC men to victory in the 4x100m relay in 38.88 at the Power 5 Challenge in Los Angeles.



Samuel Chelanga — Chelanga was Team USATF’s highest-placing finisher at the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in Valencia, Spain, taking 14th in 61:23.



Jake Lanier — Lanier won the 200m in 21.02 and helped his squad from The Woodlands (Texas) HS to victory in the 4x100m (40.50) and 4x200m (1:24.49). The 4x200m time is the best by a high school team this season.
