COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Andrew Liskowitz of the University of Michigan men's track and field team earned Second Team All-America honors to headline the first day of the NCAA Indoor Championships hosted by Texas A&M at on Friday (March 9) at Gilliam Indoor Track and Field Stadium.
Liskowitz posted his only measured mark of the day on his third attempt as he heaved the implement 18.38m (60 feet, 3.75 inches) for 14th place. That throw was preceded by two straight fouls to open the day.
He earned second-team honors by virtue of placing between ninth and 16th in his event, and is the third Wolverine to earn such an honor since the second team was first introduced in 2011. This marks the first time he has earned All-America honors at Michigan, though he did earn an Honorable Mention award for the 2017 NCAA Outdoor shot put.
Liskowitz is one of Michigan's nation-best throwers who advanced to the NCAA Championships. The other two, weight throwers Joe Ellis and Grant Cartwright, will compete Saturday (March 10) at 2 p.m. CT. Both Ellis and Cartwright are returning First Team All-Americans in the event -- top-eight finishers -- and are both projected to repeat those honors tomorrow.
