The 12th-ranked Charger women's track team began a two-week stretch of home events by participating in the Hillsdale Tune Up Saturday at the Margot V. Biermann Athletic Center.
Collectively, Hillsdale recorded three first-place finishes and six second-place finishes at the meet that featured programs from Michigan like Adrian, Albion and Olivet.
Senior Fiona Shea was terrific in this meet, recording two first-place finishes, in the 200 meter dash (25.86 seconds) and the 60 meter dash (7.85 seconds). After battling injuries earlier in her career, Shea has bounced back in a big way this season and has contributed much to the team's success this indoor season.
The 4x400 meter relay team provided a victorious end to the meet, as the group of Victoria Wichman, Ashlee Moran, Lorina Clemence and Zolanya Eby won the race in 3:55.13.
Senior captain Rachael Tolsma recorded a pair of second-place finishes in the weight throw and shot put. Her mark of 17.17 meters in the weight throw is an NCAA provo mark, while her spot in the shot put was 13.38 meters.
A pair of distance runners achieved second places in the meet. Kate Vanderstelt was the runner-up in the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:43.05. Amanda Reagle was second in the mile run in 5:19.6.
Freshman Carmen Botha was second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.07 seconds, and Abbie Porter took second in the 800 with a 2:16.01.
