AQ Distance Medley Relays Excel at GVSU Big Meet
Provided by Aquinas
The Aquinas indoor track & field teams only had two groups of competitors at day two of the GVSU Big Meet in Allendale, Mich. on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 10), but those teams put together outstanding efforts. Both the #7 Aquinas women and #9 Saints men had distance medley relay teams post automatic qualifying times in Saturday's competition.
The women's relay team of Alexis Miller (JR/Caledonia, MI), Analis Floyd (JR/Grand Rapids, Michigan), Melissa Winchester (JR/Wayland, Michigan), and Adri Sigafoose (SR/McBain, Michigan) finished seventh in the 21-team field in a time of 11:57.33. That is a new school record in the event and automatic qualified the quartet for the NAIA National competition. It is also the second-fastest time in the NAIA this season in the event.
AQ's men were eighth out of 15 teams, as Grayson Harding (SO/Grand Rapids, Michigan), Demetrius Miller, Matt MacGregor (SO/Rockford, Michigan), and Arik LaFave (SO/Hesperia, Michigan) finished the distance medley relay in 10:01.72. It is the third-fastest time in Aquinas history and automatically qualified the group for the NAIA Indoor Nationals in early-March. Like the women's relay, the men's team ranks second in the country in the NAIA with today's time.
The Aquinas men's and women's teams will host and compete in the WHAC Championships next Saturday (Feb. 17) at 1:00 p.m. in the Alksnis Athletics & Recreation Building. The NAIA National Championships are on Mar. 1-3 in Pittsburg, Kansas.
