#7 Aquinas Men Win Hall of Fame Classic

The #7 Aquinas men's indoor track and field team captured its first meet victory of the season at the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Classic on Friday night (Feb. 2) in the Alksnis Athletics & Recreation Building. AQ had several strong performances to top the rest of the four-team field.
With 166 points, the Saints held off second-place Davenport (153 points). Calvin (136) and #3 Cornerstone (75) rounded out the four Grand Rapids schools participating in the Hall of Fame Classic. The AQ men have finished in the top-four at all four events so far this season.
Melvin Moseley (FR/Rockford, Michigan) placed third in the 60 meter dash in a time of 7.19 seconds. Sam Freeman (SR/Grand Rapids, Michigan) and Edwin Anderson (FR/Wyoming, Michigan) took the top two spots at the 200 meter dash, with Freeman's time of 22.83 seconds narrowly clipping Anderson's 22.84 seconds. Moseley (23.86) and Octavian Condet (SR/Caledonia, Michigan) in 23.91 seconds placed seventh and eighth, respectively.
Dionte Williams (SR/Kentwood, Michigan) was second in the 400 meter dash at 50.60 seconds, with Brody Heitzman (JR/Grand Rapids, Michigan) placing fourth in 51.84 seconds and Demetrius Miller in fifth place at 51.87 seconds.
The 4x400 meter relay team of Heitzman, Anderson, Freeman, and Miller won the event in a time of 3:26.99.
Five of the top six finishers in the 600 meter run were Saints. Matt MacGregor (SO/Rockford, Michigan) came in second place at 1:23.99, with Kyle Williams (JR/Kentwood, Michigan) earning a third-place finish in 1:25.66. Robert Morse (FR/Traverse City, Michigan), Josh Fischer, and Tristan Milarch (FR/Jenison, Michigan) took the next three spots in the run.
William Haran won the 800 meter run in a time of 1:58.02, with Adam Bundy (JR/Grand Rapids, Michigan) placing seventh in 2:01.35. In the 1,000 meter run, Arik LaFave (SO/Hesperia, Michigan) notched the fifth-fastest time in Aquinas history with an automatic qualifying time of 2:31.52. Grayson Harding (SO/Grand Rapids, Michigan) placed second in a provisional qualifier of 2:32.91, while Connor McGee (FR/Traverse City, Michigan) was fourth in 2:41.02.
In the mile run, Luke Simonds (JR/Grand Rapids, Michigan) notched a second-place finish in 4:32.28, with Nathan Mauer taking fourth place in 4:36.53 and Stephen Pfahler (SR/St. Joseph, Michigan) finishing sixth in 4:36.93.
Gannon Foley (FR/Portage, Michigan) used a time of 8:44.58 to place second in the 3,000 meter run, as Eric Cichon (JR/Kentwood, Mich.) was fifth at 9:01.52. In the 5,000 meter run, Adam Gizowski (SR/St. Clair, Michigan) was third at 15:25.07, with Joey Ciaravino (JR/Harper Woods, Michigan) placing fifth in a time of 15:47.59.
Curtis Bell (SR/Coleman, Michigan) won the pole vault with a leap of 5.02 meters, with John Rhea (FR/Calhoun, Georgia) placing second at 4.40 meters. Nate McKeown (SO/Hesperia, Michigan) was second in the high jump at 1.95 meters and came in fourth place in the long jump at 6.41 meters.
John Piatek (JR/Traverse City, Michigan) won the shot put with a heave of 15.36 meters, as Evan Pugh (SO/Venedocia, Ohio) used a toss of 14.32 meters to placed third. Pugh was also sixth in the weight throw at 14.80 meters.
The Saints compete next Friday (Feb. 9) at the GVSU Big Meet in Allendale at 10:00 a.m., while also hosting the Aquinas College Little Meet at 5:00 p.m. in Alksnis.
