DEFIANCE, Ohio — Multiple top finishes in single events helped the Albion College men's track and field team get within three points of first place at the Defiance College Invitational.
Sophomore Chase Baumgardner, first-year D'Anthony Goodwin and junior Jon Haadsma started the event sweeps off with a 4-5-8 finish in the mile.
A long purple line of first-year runners took a 1-2-4-7 finish in the 5,000 meters. Ronald Cucuro took first with a time of 15:59, with Thomas Michno, Kody DeHaan and David Pinter following close behind.
A powerful finish in the triple jump sealed the day closed. Juniors Richard Annorat, Jephte Jean-Claude and Rayshawn Robinson took first, second and fifth, and first-year Roscell Hines became the final scorer with an eighth-place jump.
Annorat and Jean-Claude had finished close to one another earlier with third and sixth place finishes in the 60 meter hurdles, separated by only a half-second.
In the throws, first-year Kejuan Frazier blasted a 14.26 meter (46' 9 ½") throw onto the turf for a first place finish in the shotput. Junior Markell McCoy's 12.33 meter (40' 5 ½") throw gave him a seventh-place finish. Over in the weight throw, senior Andrew Strzelecki took sixth.
The Britons return to competition Feb. 3 at the Joe Banks Invitational at Ohio Northern University.
