Six individual event wins helped equal one team win for the Hillsdale College women's track team.
Competing in the friendly confines of the Margot V. Biermann Athletic Center for the first time this season, the Chargers easily outdistanced the competition at the Conference Crossover, hosted by Hillsdale College. The team accumulated 137 points to win the five-team event. New G-MAC rival Ursuline was second with 100, followed by 91 from Bellarmine, 68 from Cedarville and 60 from old GLIAC rival Northwood.
Captain Rachael Tolsma set the appropriate tone for the team's success on this day, earning two first places in her two specialty events, the weight throw and the shot put. Her toss of 17.76 meters in the weight throw was one of two NCAA provisional marks earned by the Chargers on the day. She won the shot put with a toss of 12.78 meters.
Freshman Zalonya Eby led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 meter dash for the Chargers, picking up an NCAA provo time of 25.26 to win a competitive race. Teammates Ashlee Moran (second) and Fiona Shea (third) weren't far behind, giving Hillsdale important points on its way to a meet victory.
Hillsdale's depth was evident in the meet, even in events it didn't win. Abbie Porter and Hannah Watts finished second and third in the 800 meter run respectively, with Porter's time 2:18.26.
Freshman Carmen Botha, another impressive newcomer to the program, won the 400 meter hurdles in 1:04.22.
On the distance side of the ledger, freshman Kyleigh Edwards earned her first career collegiate indoor victory, winning the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:28.96. Not far behind her was teammate Addison Rauch, who took second.
