BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team continued its indoor season Friday, Dec. 8, as they competed in the BG Open in Bowling Green, Ohio. EMU had eight athletes place in the top-three of their respective events, including three who took first place.

Starting with the 300m dash, freshman Keypathwa Gibson (Toledo, Ohio-Roy C. Start) finished in 40.37 to take third place as the only EMU representative. Her participation in the event was also her first performance in the 300m while donning the Green and White.

Senior Tifani Byrd (Toms River, N.J.-Toms River North) was the lone Eagle to qualify for the 60m hurdle finals with a prelim time of 8.96. In the finals heat, Byrd notched a time of 8.84 to take second place.

Also competing as the only Eagle in her event, sophomore Kristine Bourg (Shorewood, Ill.-Joliet West) held strong in the 60m dash, crossing the finish line in 7.87 to take third, narrowly missing out on second place by less than a second. Along with capturing third place, her time also warranted a new personal best for the Shorewood, Ill. native.

Gibson continued her impressive night in the 200m dash, another meet she had yet to compete in collegiately. The freshman earned her first event title as an Eastern Michigan Eagle, capturing first place in 25.55.

Freshman Savanah Luthman (New Bremen, Ohio-Minster) continued the trend of setting new career bests by reaching 13.25m in the weight throw. Her performance saw her finish sixth as the only EMU student-athlete in the event. Fellow freshman Crystal Washington (Los Angeles, Calif.-Carson) led the Green and White in the long jump, placing sixth with a distance of 4.99m. Bourg also put up a solid performance in the event, notching 4.94m for a new career long, while junior Gianna Salzbrunn (North Aurora, Ill.-Montini Catholic) finished just behind Bourg at ninth with a distance of 4.92m. Junior Elisa Hendriksen (Howell, Mich.-Cosby) rounded out the Eagles finishing in the top ten of the event, also nabbing a career best of her own with a distance of 4.79m to take 10th.

Junior Rebekah Carr (Celina, Ohio-Celina) and freshman Graysen Simmons (Huber Heights, Ohio-Wayne) tied for first place in the pole vault with marks of 3.35m, which tied Simmons' personal best, however, Carr claimed the title after winning in a jump-off against her freshman teammate.

Freshman Emily Westers (Hastings, Mich.-Hastings) competed strong to a third-place finish in the high jump as the only Eastern representative in the event. The Hastings, Mich. native tied her career mark of 1.58m, which she set in last week's season opener.

Washington joined Gibson in earning the first event title of her career, capturing first place in the triple jump with a distance of 11.37m. Luthman placed the highest out of any Eagles in shot put, finishing fifth with a distance of 11.14m, which serves as a new career-high. Carr and Hendriksen rounded out the event with eighth and ninth-place finishes, with Hendriksen's attempt the first of her collegiate career.

The Green and White will have a long break from competition, as EMU returns to action in 2018, when it takes part in the Wolverine Invitational, Jan. 13, in Ann Arbor, Mich.
